My Personal Review

I’ve just finished working through the book an I’m in awe. And let me tell you that I’m already reading tarot, so I’m not a complete newcomer to tarot cards.

When you start working through the book, you can use any tarot deck you want, however it’s preferred that you use one of the Rider Waite Smith decks because many explanations are given based on the RW symbolism and meaning. The book has a section on giving you a list of the best tarot decks to work with.

If you are already reading tarot cards, beware because this takes you really to the beginning. It assumes you know nothing. For example for the earlier exercises, you put aside your Major Arcana, and work only with the Minor Arcana cards.

You first learn to read the cards at face value and then go beyond face value (enter the story, ask questions from the characters), which is great for enhancing your intuition, your feelings about the cards.

Reading Intuitively With The Exercises

Honestly, if you are a person who is relying too much on the traditional meanings of the cards, this book is a godsend.

The problem with traditional meanings is that every ‘authority’ on the topic has put their own meanings onto the cards, so you basically have to learn by heart several different meanings and then trying to extract your own from all this.

However in Dusty White’s book, you first learn to follow your own intuition and only after that you check the traditional meanings for extra ideas and impressions. Pretty powerful.

There are exercises for the first 30 days to follow through without skipping. Each exercise builds upon the previous one. Also each exercise should be done a couple of times before moving on to the next.

There is even a check list and a ‘what did I do today’ sheet that you can fill out and keep track of your progress.

This is truly one of the most detailed books on learning tarot I’ve ever seen (and I really own a lot of tarot books).

What You Will Learn

The Easiest Way To Learn Tarot has a section on every aspect of learning tarot. It goes in details on the basics, including history, what you need to get started, then it goes on through the 11 exercises to do over 30 days.

Next it talks about the most common – and not so common spreads, starting with the very basic ones, going to more advanced ones that help you read the cards combined.

Sections 4 and 5 are the ones dealing with the traditional meanings of the major and minor arcana. These two sections are introduced later because you are learning first and foremost to read the cards based on your intuition (and to trust your intuition).

Of course you can take a peek at the traditional card meanings at any time, however it is recommended that you leave this for later, to not influence your intuitive learning.

What is especially great about this course is that once you buy the book, you get full access to Dusty White’s tarot forum (yes, you can find me there too), where you can study with other tarot readers who own this book. I like that you can practice with another person (there are some exercises in the book that can be also practiced in twos). This way you learn tarot so much faster because you can bounce off ideas and questions to the other people. And of course, making friends in the process is a given.

Final Words

This is truly one book that I don’t regret having purchased. It is written in a way that is extremely easy to read and understand, in a ‘from me to you’ language. It’s like chatting with a friend, or a teacher talking to you.

The book is huge, a heavy trade paperback that included pretty much everything you need to learn the tarot.
If you don’t buy any other books, buy this one. You won’t regret it!
